¡Three Amigos!

There’s a Christmas tree place near me called ‘Tree Amigos’ and going past it I realised I’d never actually seen Three Amigos.

I know that one of my favourite films that came later, Galaxy Quest¹, is pretty much the same concept but instead of sci-fi here it’s Mexico. Three famous movie actors (Steve Martin, Martin Short, Chevy Chase) get the call from a village being terrorised by a bandito. They travel there thinking that the villagers want a performance, when actually they want real gunslingers.

It’s every bit the screwball western farce I was hoping for. I doubt it was ever going to change movie history but it’s a great mix of physical comedy, character work and just straight up jokes.
