Happy Gilmore

A wannabe ice hockey player (Adam Sandler) with a very short temper discovers that he’s got one of the most powerful golf drives in the world. Against his better judgement he switches to golf to try and win some money and save his grandmother’s house from being repossessed.

There’s always been something a bit empty about Adam Sandler’s foul-mouthed every-man bit but with some of these early films you can see where his popularity came from in spite of his dreadful later work. There are funny jokes here!

That’s about it though, the story itself isn’t all that compelling and the last third of the film really phones it all in just to get things wrapped up quickly.
