The Fall Guy

I never forget a fist.
28 September 2024

A stuntman (Ryan Gosling) investigates the disappearance of the leading actor on a film he’s working on, directed by his on-and-off-again girlfriend (Emily Blunt).

A fun summer blockbuster that serves as a bit of a love letter to stuntmen. As you’d expect it’s packed with plenty of practical effects, although funnily enough sometimes the direction lets it down and some of them aren’t shot in a particularly interesting way.

It’s a film that gets by on freewheeling chaotic fun and charisma, and that’s more than enough in this case. Its carefree tone is infectious, free from the shackles of any IP or having to build a franchise.

The Fall Guy shows that you can still have a good time without having to make a masterpiece, but also without having to insult the audience’s intelligence.
