Tangerine

I promise no drama, Alexandra!

A couple of transgender sex-workers (Kitana Kiki Rodriquez, My Taylor) go searching through LA on Christmas Eve in search of a pimp who wronged them (James Ransone).

Kind of a hyper-modern wild-ride crossed with an old school comedy and a sweet girlfriend movie. Modern because it’s shot on iPhones, and casts actors who have never worked before. Old-school because a lot of the arguments, in the best possible way, feel like something out of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Sweet because the stand out scenes are where the film takes a breather, and the characters really connect with each other.

It’s also a lovely Christmas film that carries a really warm message for all the family, especially when a taxi driver sucks off a transgender prostitute while they are going through a car wash. In that sense it’s much like Elf or It’s a Wonderful Life.

I’m far too late to the Sean Baker party but I’m glad I finally got around to watching this. Tell you what though it makes me really not want to go to LA.
