The Young Victoria

Emily Blunt plays a young Queen Victoria during the turbulent start to her reign. The film also covers her meeting and wedding Albert (Rupert Friend).

A well cast period drama that sticks reasonably closely to historical fact, almost to a fault. It’s an interesting series of events but a cold and un-involving screenplay. Emily Blunt in particular is under-utilised and a little too restrained.

It’s a quality production though that moves at a swift but stately pace, holding your hand through the key points in time without dragging on for too long.

Not the sort of film you come back to in a hurry despite its glossy and elegant production values.
