Google Account Passwords Leaked
Around 5,000,000 emails and passwords leaked
11 September 2014
Quick PSA, someone posted 5 million gmail account emails and passwords to a forum a few hours ago1. Change your password!
For the most part the passwords included are old, and it seems not always actually used on gmail accounts. It’s therefore assumed that the hackers obtained the passwords from services other than Google.
If you use your password in more than one place, you might be in trouble.
Also, you should use a password manager like the brilliant LastPass2 or (my pick) KeePass3. This way you can have loads of different passwords for everything and not have to remember them.
You should also use ‘two factor authentication’ where possible, so if someone does get your password, they still can’t log in to your account.
